what is a crown ?

A crown is a  tooth shaped “CAP”  that is placed over a tooth to restore its shape, size ,strength and to improve its appearance.

Why do I need a crown?

You might need a crown if you:

* have a cavity that is too large

* have a missing tooth and needs a bridge

* have a cracked /broken tooth

* have had root canal treatment - the tooth will need crown to protect the tooth 

* to cover a discolored or badly shaped tooth


What is a crown made from?

Crowns are made from several types of materials. Metal alloys,ceramics,porcelain,composite resin,or combinations of these materials may be used in the making of the crown.

What to expect for you appointment?

The crown procedure normally takes two separate appointment and includes several steps.

During the first appointment the tooth to be crowned is prepared .the outer portion of the tooth is removed so the crown fill fit.Any cavity is removed and if additional tooth structure is needed for support the dentist may build up the tooth with a filling

Impressions/ mold of the tooth is taken and sent to the lab

You will get a temporary crown while you wait for permanent crown

During the second appointment the permanent crown is cemented after checking its fit.
